<p>In January of 1957, while attending a many-body theory meeting at the <a href="page.php?w=Stevens_Institute_of_Technology">Stevens Institute of Technology</a>, Schrieffer thought of the idea of using a statistical approach analogous to a <a href="page.php?w=Mean-field_theory">mean field</a>, because of the strong overlap of electron pairs in the superconductor. This was a breakthrough as it allowed Schrieffer to guess an appropriate <a href="page.php?w=Ground_state">ground-state</a></p><p>
