Thus, into the eleventh century the Venetian doges held titles typical of Byzantine rulers in outlying regions, such as <a href="page.php?w=Byzantine_Sardinia">Sardinia</a>. As late as 1202, the Doge <a href="page.php?w=Enrico_Dandolo">Enrico Dandolo</a> was styled , a title granted to him by <a href="page.php?w=Alexios_III_Angelos">Alexios III Angelos</a>.</p><p>
