Geography

The Gilgit Agency remained an "amorphous unit" throughout the period of its existence, with its status relative to Jammu and Kashmir undefined. It comprised various princely states, un-administered tribes, ''jagirs'' and directly administered areas on the northwestern frontier of British Indian Empire.
