<p>The rounded forms of Carolingian became angular flicks of the <a href="page.php?w=quill">quill</a>, and both letters and words became compressed.</p>

<p>Early Gothic is characterized by a number of factors. There are no capital letters for this script. Instead <a href="page.php?w=Rustic_capitals">Roman Rustic</a>, <a href="page.php?w=Roman_square_capitals">Roman Square</a> or <a href="page.php?w=Uncial_script">Uncial</a> letters were used. <a href="page.php?w=Initial">Versals</a> were most often <a href="page.php?w=Lombardic_capitals">Lombardic Capitals</a></p><p>
