<p>Following the general election on <a href="page.php?w=2024_United_Kingdom_general_election">4 July 2024</a>, Prime Minister <a href="page.php?w=Sir_Keir_Starmer">Sir Keir Starmer</a> appointed <a href="page.php?w=Rachel_Reeves">Rachel Reeves</a> as Chancellor of the Exchequer, thus making Reeves the first female Chancellor in the 708-year history of <a href="page.php?w=HM_Treasury">HM Treasury</a>. Starmer appointed women to a record half of all Cabinet posts, including three of the top five positions in the government:</p><p>
