<p>According to the rationalizing historian <a href="page.php?w=Diodorus_Siculus">Diodorus Siculus</a>, Hyperion was the name of the first person to understand the movement of the sun and moon, and their effect on the seasons, and explains that, because of this, he was said to be their "father":</p>
