The first ringing scheme was established in Germany by <a href="page.php?w=Johannes_Thienemann">Johannes Thienemann</a> in 1903 at the <a href="page.php?w=Rossitten_Bird_Observatory">Rossitten Bird Observatory</a> on the Baltic Coast of East Prussia.
