<p><b>Andecava civitas</b> (6th century), <b>Andecavis</b> (AD&nbsp;769), <b>Andegavis</b> (861&nbsp;- 882), <b>Angieus</b> (in 1127) and <b>Angeus</b> (in 1205). The form <b>Angiers</b> appeared during the 12th century and was later corrupted to "Angers".</p>

<p>The Latin Andecavum also gave <a href="page.php?w=Duchy_of_Anjou">Anjou</a> its name. This double formation is also quite common in France and can be seen in <a href="page.php?w=Poitiers">Poitiers</a> and <a href="page.php?w=Poitou">Poitou</a>, and <a href="page.php?w=Bourges">Bourges</a> and</p><p>
