"Shiga Prefecture" was named after "<a href="page.php?w=Shiga_District%2C_Shiga">Shiga District</a>" because Otsu belonged to the district until 1898. From August 1876 to February 1881, southern Fukui Prefecture had been incorporated into Shiga Prefecture.</p>
