Traditionally referred to as scleral icterus, this term is actually a misnomer, because bilirubin deposition technically occurs in the <a href="page.php?w=Conjunctiva">conjunctival membranes</a> overlying the avascular sclera. Thus, the proper term for the yellowing of "white of the eyes" is conjunctival icterus.</p>
