An archaic British word meaning "possession by spirits (<a href="page.php?w=pixie">pixie</a>s)", the term has been used to describe the animation process since the early 1950s; various animators, including <a href="page.php?w=Norman_McLaren">Norman McLaren</a> and <a href="page.php?w=Grant_Munro_%28filmmaker%29">Grant Munro</a>, are credited with popularizing it.</p>
