They are characteristic of mountainous terrain in arid to <a href="page.php?w=Semi-arid_climate">semiarid climates</a>, but are also found in more humid environments subject to intense rainfall and in areas of modern <a href="page.php?w=glaciation">glaciation</a>.</p><p>
