<p>An <b>autochthon</b> in <a href="page.php?w=structural_geology">structural geology</a> is a large block or mass of rock which is in the place of its original formation relative to its <a href="page.php?w=Basement_%28geology%29">basement</a> or foundation rock. The word is derived from Greek: autos means self, and chthon means earth.</p>
