<p>In a hierarchical <a href="page.php?w=telecommunications_network">telecommunications network</a>, the <b>backhaul</b> portion of the network comprises the intermediate links between the core network, or <a href="page.php?w=backbone_network">backbone network</a>, and the small <a href="page.php?w=subnetwork">subnetwork</a>s at the edge of the network (like for example <a href="page.php?w=private_network">private network</a>s, <a href="page.php?w=LAN">LAN</a>s, etc.).</p>
