<p>The <b>law of Brazil</b> is based on statutes and, more recently, on a mechanism called súmulas vinculantes. It derives mainly from the European <a href="page.php?w=civil_law_%28legal_system%29">civil law</a> systems, particularly the <a href="page.php?w=Law_of_Portugal">Portuguese</a>, the <a href="page.php?w=Napoleonic_Code">Napoleonic French</a>, and the <a href="page.php?w=Law_of_Germany">German</a> (especially the <a href="page.php?w=B%C3%BCrgerliches_Gesetzbuch">German Civil Code</a>).</p>
