<p>In horticulture, <b>stratification</b> is a process of treating <a href="page.php?w=seeds">seeds</a> to simulate natural conditions that the seeds must experience before <a href="page.php?w=germination">germination</a> can occur. Many seed species have an embryonic <a href="page.php?w=Seed_dormancy">dormancy</a> phase and generally will not sprout until this dormancy is broken.</p>
