LCDs do not produce light on their own, so they require illumination--either from <a href="page.php?w=available_light">ambient light</a> or a dedicated light source--to create a visible image. Backlights are commonly used in <a href="page.php?w=smartphone">smartphone</a>s, <a href="page.php?w=computer_monitor">computer monitor</a>s, and <a href="page.php?w=LCD_television">LCD television</a>s.</p><p>
