<p>The <b>basic needs</b> approach is one of the major approaches to the measurement of <a href="page.php?w=absolute_poverty">absolute poverty</a> in developing countries globally.  It works to define the absolute minimum resources necessary for long-term <a href="page.php?w=physical_well-being">physical well-being</a>, usually in terms of <a href="page.php?w=Consumption_%28economics%29">consumption goods</a>.
