<p>A <b>cold cathode</b> is a <a href="page.php?w=cathode">cathode</a> that is not electrically heated by a <a href="page.php?w=Electrical_filament">filament</a>. A cathode may be considered "cold" if it emits more electrons than can be supplied by <a href="page.php?w=thermionic_emission">thermionic emission</a> alone.
