The <a href="page.php?w=Oxford_English_Dictionary">Oxford English Dictionary</a>, 2nd ed., records the first use of the word in 1660 and the first use in the modern sense in 1965 in which it is described as a "<a href="page.php?w=euphemism">euphemism</a></p><p>
