The term is used in a wide variety of situations, including private sector corporations, <a href="page.php?w=non-profit">non-profit</a>s, <a href="page.php?w=military_organization">military organization</a>s, religious groups, <a href="page.php?w=sports_league">sports league</a>s and so on. It usually implies a  geographically dispersed organization with a clear hierarchical structure.</p>
