<p>The <b>intermembrane space</b> (IMS) is the space occurring between or involving two or more membranes. In cell biology, it is most commonly described as the region between the <a href="page.php?w=Inner_mitochondrial_membrane">inner membrane</a> and the <a href="page.php?w=Outer_mitochondrial_membrane">outer membrane</a> of a <a href="page.php?w=mitochondrion">mitochondrion</a> or a <a href="page.php?w=chloroplast">chloroplast</a>.
