According to Charles Joyner microhistory differs from <a href="page.php?w=Case_study">case studies</a> in that microhistory aspires to "[ask] large questions in small places". It is closely associated with <a href="page.php?w=social_history">social</a> and <a href="page.php?w=cultural_history">cultural history</a>.</p>
