Depending on the mode and form of the chant, a supporting bass line (or <a href="page.php?w=Drone_%28music%29">bourdon</a>) may be sung on the same text, the melody may be followed in parallel motion (parallel <i>organum</i>), or a combination of both of these techniques may be employed.
