<p><b>Phenol formaldehyde resins</b> (PF), also called <b>phenolic resins</b> or phenoplasts, are synthetic polymers obtained by the reaction of <a href="page.php?w=phenol">phenol</a> or substituted phenol with <a href="page.php?w=formaldehyde">formaldehyde</a>. Used as the basis for <a href="page.php?w=Bakelite">Bakelite</a>, PFs were the first commercial synthetic resins.
