<p>The <b>pontificate</b> is the form of government used in <a href="page.php?w=Vatican_City">Vatican City</a>. The word came to English from French and simply means <a href="page.php?w=papacy">papacy</a>, or "to perform the functions of the Pope or other high official in the Church".
